Q: What is the Advanced Programmed Learning System?

The A*PLS is an online, instructional system used for economics and related courses. The Advanced Programmed Learning System is a flexible, content-rich system designed for use in any introductory economics course. It can be configured for introductory microeconomics and macroeconomics courses commonly offered at the undergraduate collegiate level, survey or refresher economics courses contained in graduate business, engineering, and related programs, and even advanced placement high school economics classes.

Q: Who can or should make use of the A*PLS?

The A*PLS is designed for students enrolled in college-level economics courses.

Q: What does A*PLS have to offer?

The A*PLS contains a comprehensive set of lessons that cover the major lecture topics found in virtually all introductory economics courses. Your instructor has selected the specific lessons for your course.

Added to this core presentation are the GLOSS*arama a database of almost 2,000 economic terms and concepts, the WEB*pedia encyclopedia of economics of 1,000 entries, and the QUEST*errific testing system that contains over 2,000 multiple choice exam questions. Other useful features abound throughout the A*PLS.

Q: Who is responsible for the A*PLS?

The A*PLS was developed by Orley M. Amos, an award-winning economics professor with over two decades of experience teaching introductory economics at Oklahoma State University. Professor Amos was assisted by Antonio Avalos.

Q: How can I find out more about A*PLS?

Any questions that you have about what the A*PLS has to offer can be directed to the WebMaster. He will be glad to answer your questions.

Getting Started...

Q: How do I get a username and password?

Usernames and passwords are provided with the A*PLS Student Access Guide. Your instructor has ordered this packet for use in your course and you should be able to purchase it from your local campus bookstore. The card enclosed with the Student Access Guide also provides a Course Access Code that assigns you to the correct class.

You register for the A*PLS through the registration page found at www.apls-economics.com/register.

Q: How do I log in?

When you register, you will automatically log in for your initial session into the A*PLS. To access the A*PLS for future sessions you can use the "Log In" found on the A*PLS Home Page (www.apls-economics.com).

Problems and Troubleshooting...

Q: Where do I go if I have technical questions or problems?

Please direct any technical questions or problems to the A*PLS WebMaster. Most questions are answered and problems are fixed within 24 hours.

Q: Why do I keep receiving the Log-In screen when I try to bring up another page?

The Log-In screen is displayed if there is a problem with your access authorization. If this happens, re-enter your username and password. This should re-establiish your access. If the problem persists, then contact the A*PLS WebMaster. Include your username, password, and any other information that you think might be relevant.

Q: My username and password don't work?

This could be due to one of three problems.

• First, you might have the wrong username and/or password when you log in. The username and password you use must be EXACTLY the same as those originally registered. And remember that both the username and password are case sensitive.
• Second, your subscription might have expired. Check your payment receipt to verify that your subscription is active.
• Third, we might have a problem with our database and records.

Whatever the source of the problem contact the A*PLS WebMaster and we will get it straightened out.

Q: I forgot my username and password?

It happens. Keeping track of the SIX BILLION passwords that each of us use to access assorted websites can be difficult. If you happen to forget your A*PLS access information, please use the Lost Password? link here or on the A*PLS Home Page. Or you can contact the A*PLS WebMaster with as much information as you can provide, including your best guess of your username and password.

Q: What if I find mistakes in the Advanced?

Mistrakes... er... mistakes happen. If you encounter any glitches in the system, typos in the text, incorrect exam annswers, or conceptual errors, contact contact the A*PLS WebMaster.
